As great as sugar tastes, it’s extremely destructive to your skin.

A spike in your blood sugar levels can leave too much sugar circulating in your body, resulting in glycation. Glycation is the process where a sugar molecule is added to collagen and elastin fibers – proteins which surround skin cells. This makes the collagen stiff, and the enzymes that normally remodel collagen no longer have access to that protein. When this occurs, the skin appears prematurely aged.

A simple way to lower your sugar intake is to avoid drinking soda, and opt for naturally sweetened iced tea or water infused with fresh fruit!

I can’t say enough good things about almonds!

Almonds are one of my favorite super skin foods! They make a great snack because they help with satiety.

If you don’t like how they taste alone, try adding some shaved almonds to your salad, yogurt or smoothie bowl.

Still drooling over the vegan meal I had in Seattle! I LOVED that it was topped with edamame.

Edamame is great for your skin because it’s filled with Vitamin A, which keeps your skin feeling soft! It’s also filled with isoflavones, which help preserve the skin’s collagen.

Give your skin a boost with bell peppers!

Bell peppers are one of my favorite skin foods because they are packed with Vitamin C, which helps collagen production. These vegetables also contain antioxidants that fight the effects of free radicals – helping your skin remain youthful!
