How Does the PRX Derm Perfexion Work?
The PRX Derm Perfexion works by using a special solution that contains a combination of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and antioxidants to exfoliate the skin’s surface, unclog pores, and stimulate collagen production. AHA and BHA are types of acids commonly used in skin care products to exfoliate the skin’s surface. They work by breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to be gently removed from the skin’s surface.
However, this treatment is not recommended for patients experiencing one or more of the following:
- Patients whose skin is irritated, or prone to seborrheic dermatitis, or rash (herpes)
- Irritated skin
- Allergies to Kojic acid (risk of itching) and latex
- Skin with a thick bumpy layer can not be treated because of the risk of exfoliation being too intense
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding

What Are the Benefits of a PRX Derm Perfexion?
The PRX Derm Perfexion is a non-invasive treatment that can typically take between 30-60 minutes to complete. It’s safe, effective, and can be tailored to the needs of each individual patient. Treatment results may vary depending on your individual factors, such as skin type, age, and the type of skin condition you’re looking to treat.

Patients may begin seeing results within a few days to a week after the treatment. However, it may take several treatments to achieve optimal results. For optimal results, most patients will require 3 sessions, approximately 1 session every 3 weeks.
What to Expect from a PRX Derm Perfexion Appointment at Ava MD
During your appointment, your skin will be cleansed and prepped for treatment. Then, the PRX Derm Perfexion will be applied to the skin by massage until the product is completely absorbed. Between 2-5 applications are made per session. Afterward, the skin is washed and rinsed before a nourishing cream is applied.
After treatment, patients may notice some redness or mild swelling in the treated area. This is completely normal and should subside within a few hours or days. Patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure and use sunscreen to protect the skin after treatment.
