What is a Q-Switched Ruby Laser?
A Q-switched ruby laser is a cosmetic laser that uses a synthetic ruby crystal as a focus for a 694 nm wavelength that can target certain types of pigmentation in the skin, including brown spots, pigmented lesions, and blue, black, or green tattoo ink. Ruby lasers are FDA approved for removal of these pigmentation problems, and have a record of safety and efficacy.
Treatment with a ruby laser is relatively quick and painless. The length of the procedure will depend on the size and extent of the spot or tattoo to be removed. Multiple sessions may be needed for full results. Patients often describe the feeling of the laser as that of a rubber band snapping against the skin; most patients find it tolerable, and our skilled dermatologists will do everything they can to ensure you have a comfortable experience, including applying numbing cream to the area to be treated.
