When I was busy writing my book, Heal Your Skin: The Breakthrough Plan for Renewal, this was the sort of event in which I really wanted to take part. Last week, I was honored to serve on a panel of authors (including the breast cancer surgeon Dr. Susan Love) speaking about the inspiration behind our books and offering guidance and support to those struggling with cancer at The Cancer Support Community-Benjamin Center’s 8th annual Community of Friends luncheon. The event was emceed by the talented and beautiful actress Julie Benz at the Skirball Cultural Center here in Los Angeles.
The Cancer Support Community-Benjamin Center is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer. Programs at the center include educational workshops, support groups, stress reduction and exercise classes and individual counseling. All profits from this luncheon will be used to sustain their programming and ensure that they can continue to offer assistance free of charge.
Treating the unique skin challenges that cancer patients encounter became a passion of mine when a dear friend was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. Since then, I’ve worked to develop programs and treatments that can help cancer patients cope better with the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. It’s reassuring and important for them to know they can continue their lives looking and feeling their best. In keeping with this commitment, I recently launched The Skin Recovery Clinic where we provide skin supporting and rejuvenating services to those who have already completed the course of their cancer treatments.
