Our bodies naturally produce less collagen as we age, resulting in less volume and elasticity to our skin. This decrease in collagen is most noticeable in the face and hands, resulting in fine lines, creases, wrinkles, sagging skin, and bags under the eyes, all of which can become worse due to sun damage, exposure to cigarettes and pollution, as well as genetic factors. However, it is possible to turn back the years and erase the signs of skin damage with a dermal filler injection called Sculptra.
To learn more about Sculptra and discuss whether it is the right treatment for your cosmetic goals, schedule a consultation with the expert dermatologists at Ava MD in Beverly Hills. Dr. Ava Shamban and Dr. Soheil Simzar have thorough training and experience with Sculptra and can help patients achieve the youthful, rejuvenated appearance they want. What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler that uses poly-L-lactic acid and a biocompatible, biodegradeable aqueous gel to correct deep wrinkles and creases while also stimulating the body’s natural collagen production process. Unlike other forms of cosmetic treatments, Sculptra achieves subtle, natural looking results over time as the body replaces collagen that has been lost over time. Patients typically see results within one month as the gel lifts and supports the skin until it is replaced with the body’s renewed collagen.
What to Expect During a Sculptra Treatment
Typically, a full Scultpra treatment takes about three different sessions of injections, each taking no more than 30 minutes to an hour. Before each session, the targeted area is anesthetized to reduce discomfort, followed by a series of injections directly into the targeted area with very fine needles. It is important that patients only receive a Sculptra treatment from an experienced and board-certified dermatologist, such as Dr. Ava and her team in order to avoid adverse results.
The full results of a Sculptra treatment gradually become visible over several months and can last for as long as two years. However, results are different for everyone and it is important to discuss your goals and expectations before any cosmetic procedure to ensure satisfaction.
What Does Sculptra Treat?
Sculptra is an ideal treatment option for the following problem areas:
- Nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines, around the nose and mouth
- Chin wrinkles
- Fine lines around the eyes and brow
- Marionette lines that frame the mouth
- Loose, sagging skin along the jaw or jowls
- Chest wrinkles
- Loose, baggy skin under the eyes
Since every treatment affects patients differently, it may be advised to combine Sculptra with other treatment options, such as Botox or Restylane Lyft.
