By the power invested in me as a dermatologist, friend, and author of this blog, I hereby declare February the month of love. And now that Valentine’s Day is out of the way, we can concentrate on the important stuff—loving yourself. The right way, appreciating who you are and all of your potential, not like a narcissist! I consider myself a survivor. No matter what life has thrown at me I have persevered. And it really helps to meet life’s challenges with a lot of self love and appreciation.
Most of us think of love as something we give to others, or something we experience–not usually something we give to ourselves. But if you want to be the best mother/wife/daughter/father/son/employee/CEO/member of ANY team—personal or professional—you’ve got to save some TLC for yours truly. It’s common sense. And something I know from life experience. Keep yourself strong, and you can be a strength to others.
Appearance plays a huge role in self-esteem. When we feel confident about the way we look, it’s empowering. It supports an overall positive outlook, an outlook that says anything is possible. So it’s not a matter of vanity to want to look your best. It’s YOUR right.
And you have a right to look great, not just ‘great for your age.’ Stress, hormonal changes, environmental assaults – all of these can take a toll on skin. But, just like in any relationship, you can take control—and choose to restore naturally youthful, healthy skin. You can go through menopause and still remain feminine, attractive, sensual and sexy. You can get rid of adult acne. You can erase the damage that illness may cause. Follow a regular skin care regimen; fight free radicals and stress with fitness and diet; get rid of cigarettes and other destructive habits; take advantage of today’s safe and highly advanced non-invasive procedures; and the sky’s the limit. Amazing support is available. All we need to do, is value ourselves enough to seek it.
