The SmoothBeam laser is a non-ablative laser that can help to smooth wrinkles, clear active acne, reduce acne scars, and provide overall skin rejuvenation. It is a popular choice due to its gentle, relatively pain-free nature as well as the lack of downtime needed. If you are suffering from active acne, acne scars, or fine lines and wrinkles, SmoothBeam may be a good choice for you.

How Does SmoothBeam Work?
SmoothBeam is non-ablative, which means that it does not actively damage the epidermis. Instead, its heat energy is targeted under the surface of the skin to the deep dermis tissue. Because the epidermis is not damaged, there is no downtime involved after a SmoothBeam procedure, making this laser a great option for people leading busy lives who can’t take a day or two off work.
SmoothBeam targets the dermis and tightens the tissue through heat energy, which in turn stimulates collagen production as well as tightening the sebaceous glands which produce oil. As we age, our collagen production slows down, which leads to lines and wrinkles. Renewed collagen production allows for plumper, more supple skin, smoothing out both wrinkles and acne scars. Our sebaceous glands are responsible for oil production, which can trap dead skin cells and debris in the pores, providing the perfect breeding ground for acne causing bacteria. By tightening these glands and altering their function, acne causing bacteria are greatly reduced, thus also reducing the amount of active acne on the face or back.
What is a SmoothBeam Procedure Like?
SmoothBeam includes a dynamic cooling device (DCD) which provides cooling blasts of cryogen spray immediately before a pulse of laser energy. This provides the dual purpose of protecting the outer skin tissue and reducing discomfort for the patient. In addition, a numbing agent will be used before treatment, further reducing any potential pain or discomfort.
SmoothBeam treatments generally take around ten minutes to half an hour to perform, depending on the size of the area to be treated. There is no downtime required following a procedure – you can resume your everyday activities immediately after leaving the office! Side effects from a SmoothBeam procedure are minor, and can include redness or swelling on the treated areas. These effects are temporary, and generally resolve on their own within a week.
