What is Qwo?
Qwo is the world’s first and only FDA-approved injectable for the treatment of cellulite. The FDA has approved Qwo to treat moderate-to-severe cellulite in the female buttocks, creating a smoother appearance of the skin.
In clinical trials, Qwo reduced the severity of dimpling, waviness, “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” appearance of the skin – all common concerns that our patients have voiced.
Ava MD is a leader in innovative, non-surgical body sculpting options like Qwo. If you’re looking for a solution to reduce or eliminate cellulite in your buttocks, Qwo might be the perfect treatment for you.
How Does Qwo Work?
Qwo works by enzymatically disrupting the fibrous septae responsible for creating cellulite, which results in a smoother appearance of the treated skin. Qwo is made from enzymes called collagenases. These enzymes are thought to work by targeting the structural causes under the skin.
By targeting the area where cellulite starts, Qwo can release the fibrous bands, redistribute fat cells, and stimulate the growth of new collagen. Unlike other injectables on the market, studies show Qwo lasting anywhere from 1-5 years.
What Does Qwo Treat?
Qwo is the first and only FDA-approved injectable to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Qwo is one of the first treatments to tackle this common problem!
By disrupting the subdermal fibrous structures that cause dimpling in the buttocks, Qwo works to release cellulite-associated skin depressions to smooth the surface of the skin. With this treatment, you can look great and feel confident in your own skin.
With Qwo, you can enjoy body sculpting with no surgery, no downtime. With our 10-minute treatments, you’re in and out of the office quickly. Treatments are spaced 3 weeks apart, making it a great option for women with little time in their days for lengthy procedures.
Who is a Candidate for Qwo?
This is a great treatment option for women who dislike the stubborn cellulite, uneven skin surface or dimpling in the buttocks that cannot be resolved through dieting or exercise.
Many of our patients worry about cellulite showing when wearing a bathing suit or body-hugging clothing. For many of these women, Qwo is a better and more permanent solution than wearing body-compression garments that can cause discomfort.
Qwo is not recommended for individuals who are allergic to collagenase or any other ingredients found in the Qwo product.
What to Expect During Your Qwo Appointment:
At your appointment, we will discuss treatment and expectations. After identifying the treatment areas on your buttocks, we will use a small needle to inject Qwo. The treatment area is expected to bruise. Patients are more likely to get profound bruising at the site of the needle injection if they are taking aspirin or ibuprofen; these medications thin the blood and increase bleeding. We suggest that patients skip these medications for up to two weeks in advance of the treatment. However, your Ava MD provider will discuss the specifics of your situation with you.
As with all our treatments, Ava MD works to ensure all of our patients achieve noticeable results while still being mindful of your scheduled time. Your Qwo appointment takes 10 minutes or less, getting you in and out the door with time to spare in your lunch break!
Results
Some patients notice less dimpling after a single treatment with Qwo. However, most patients see an improvement approximately three weeks after their injections.
Ava MD recommends that patients return to our office for two to three separate treatments about three weeks apart for best results.
Your provider will determine the best treatment plan for you based on you, your body, and your specific goals. This innovative treatment is expected to provide long-lasting results and greatly improve the appearance of your skin. Because Qwo directly targets the structural cause of cellulite, you can regain confidence in your skin by minimizing the appearance of cellulite or completely eliminating it.
Recovering from Qwo
Most patients experienced a high level of bruising after treatment with Qwo. There will be soreness, similar to the feeling after a good workout. This is expected to resolve in a few days. Do not participate in rigorous exercise involving the bottom half of your body for the first few days. Other reported side effects include:
- Pain
- Swelling
- Nodules
- Itching
- Redness
- A warm sensation
- Discoloration
Because moderate to severe bruising is expected with Qwo, patients are advised to adjust their plans accordingly around treatment times. During your consultation, your Ava MD provider will discuss possible side effects, recovery and bruising, and the results you can expect.
